Documentation & pause

Submitting a dispute/validation request helps us document your concern. On a matched account we pause automated outreach while the balance is reviewed. Where U.S. FDCPA validation rules apply to a consumer debt, additional statutory rights may exist—see our rights summary.

  • Request verification of the amount claimed
  • Dispute if you believe the balance is incorrect
  • Expect outreach to pause during review on matched accounts

When to File a Dispute

You should file a dispute if:

  • You don't recognize this debt
  • The amount doesn't match your records
  • You've already paid the debt
  • This is the result of identity theft
  • The statute of limitations has expired
  • You need verification of the debt

Timing tip

If consumer FDCPA validation rights apply, written validation requests are often most effective within 30 days of the initial collection notice.

You can still submit later; we still document and pause matched-account outreach when possible.

What you may receive

After a validation/dispute request, documentation may include (when available from the creditor):

  • Verification of the amount claimed
  • Name of the creditor / original creditor
  • Contracts, invoices, or statements on file
  • Account transaction history

Common Dispute Reasons

  • Not My Debt: Never had account with creditor
  • Incorrect Amount: Balance is wrong or inflated
  • Already Paid: Debt was previously satisfied
  • Identity Theft: Fraudulent account in your name
  • Statute of Limitations: Debt is too old to collect legally

Important Notes

  • Disputing doesn't eliminate valid debts
  • Collection will pause during investigation
  • False disputes may have legal consequences
  • You may still owe the debt if validated
  • Credit reporting may continue if debt is validated
