Dispute Debt / Request Validation
Exercise your rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act
Dispute / Validation Form
When to File a Dispute
You should file a dispute if:
- You don't recognize this debt
- The amount doesn't match your records
- You've already paid the debt
- This is the result of identity theft
- The statute of limitations has expired
- You need verification of the debt
Time Sensitive
You have 30 days from the initial contact to request debt validation.
Filing after this period is still possible but may not pause all collection activity.
What We Must Provide
Upon receiving your validation request, we must provide:
- Verification of debt amount
- Name of original creditor
- Proof you owe the debt
- Copy of original debt agreement (if available)
- Account statements or transaction history
Common Dispute Reasons
- Not My Debt: Never had account with creditor
- Incorrect Amount: Balance is wrong or inflated
- Already Paid: Debt was previously satisfied
- Identity Theft: Fraudulent account in your name
- Statute of Limitations: Debt is too old to collect legally
Important Notes
- Disputing doesn't eliminate valid debts
- Collection will pause during investigation
- False disputes may have legal consequences
- You may still owe the debt if validated
- Credit reporting may continue if debt is validated
