Cease Communication Request
Under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, you may notify a debt collector in writing that you refuse to pay the debt or that you wish the collector to cease further communication, subject to limited exceptions.
What happens after a valid request
After we receive and process a proper cease-communication request, we generally must stop contact except to:
- Advise that collection efforts are being terminated
- Notify you that the collector or creditor may invoke specified remedies
- Notify you that the collector or creditor intends to invoke a specified remedy
- Provide notice required by law (where applicable)
Stopping contact does not eliminate the underlying obligation or legal rights of the creditor.
How to submit your request
Your request should be in writing and include:
- Your full legal name
- Account or reference number (if known)
- Current mailing address
- A clear statement that you are requesting cessation of communication
